Per Diem Recreation Therapist for Glen Cove Hospital

As Recreation Therapist you will plan, implement and coordinate activities and interventions for the development, maintenance and expression of appropriate social and leisure lifestyles of patients admitted to the Unit. You will also perform a variety of duties involved in carrying out recreation programs in assigned areas and assists in planning programs.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provides recreational therapeutic assessment of patients admitted to the Unit. Assesses patient's leisure, social and recreational abilities, deficiencies, interests, barriers, life experiences, needs and potential.
  • Plans and provides individual/group treatment services to improve social, emotional, cognitive and physical functional behaviors.
  • Plans and provides leisure educational activities. Assists the patient in acquiring the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for independent leisure and social activities; adjustment in community; decision-making ability, and appropriate use of free time.
  • Implements and coordinates individualized recreation therapy programs.
  • Discusses treatment plan and/or problems with involved physicians, nursing staff & other members of the patient care team as appropriate.
  • Documents all events that occur during the regimen.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or related field, required.
  • CTRS National Certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) required. OR CPRP through NRPA pending CTRS certification, required.
  • One (1) year of experience as a Recreational Therapist, preferred

The Recreation Leader/Homebound Services Coordinator is responsible for day programming and services for the frail elderly, homebound visiting, telephone reassurance and information assistance.

SPECIAL FRIENDS

  1. To determine eligibility of persons seeking placement in the Friends group.
  2. To coordinate all recreational/social programs on and off-site for Friends group.
  3. To develop and train member volunteers to assist with program development.

HOMEBOUND VISITING/TELEPHONE REASSURANCE
To develop a committee and train member volunteers to visit homebound members and make telephone reassurance phone calls.

INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE

  1. Knowledge of services and entitlements available in Nassau County.
  2. Ability to assist members completing Nassau County NAPIS forms and applications for entitlements.
  3. Follow up with members on annual update of NAPIS information.

OTHER
“Hands on” assistance at Center and other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Two-year degree (including classes in human services, gerontology, recreation and communication) and/or volunteer experience as a leader or work with groups.
  2. A willingness to attend continuing education seminars and workshops in the field of aging.

Director of Therapeutic Recreation

I was referred to you by a colleague regarding a Director of Therapeutic Recreation job opening at our facility. I was told that you would be able to post this position for your members who may be interested in applying.

The candidate I am seeking must have an educational degree/background related to Therapeutic Recreation with a minimum of five years experience as a Director in a long term care setting. The individual must be knowledgeable in MDS 3.0, care planning, and long term care regulations. Must posess proven track record of meeting the diverse needs of resident populations, including short term sub-acute rehab, ventialtor dependent, alzheimer's/dementia, and general long term care residents.
